Usually fotoARRAY is very fast. If you download before 11.6.2022 please download the latest build.
There are some switches to optimize the performance:
the fotoARRAY database including thumbnails should be on a SSD drive. 50GB free space should be enough for 350.000 images.
the eye symbol (watch hard drive) should be usually crossed out. So only images from the database are loaded and slow USB or network drives does not slow down the program.
In the option dialog (gear button top right) you can move the slider "Resolution" to the left. This will reduce the quality of the thumbnail when they are being loaded. This will improve the scrolling speed on slow computers, such as tablets. (This slider does not change the quality of the stored data, so you can change this setting at any time)
The context menu of the albums (click right no the gear button) contains a menu item to activate and deactivate the update of display image count for ach item. If the update procedure is active this can slow down switching between views.
When you work with a large database we recommend to reduce the count of images loaded in the scroller. You can do so by selecting either only some directories, some albums or some keywords.
When you work with a large set of data you can also use the timeline to only show some of the images. This makes it easier to select images because you can limit the view to only see images taken in one year, month of year or day.
When you have to scroll through a larger set of images you can press F5 to load all images. This may take a second or two, but you can then move from image to image without the need that fotoARRAY fetches further records from the database. (Of course the thumbnails are only loaded when required for display.)
Please make sure to let fotoARRAY make a backup of the database from time to time. You find the menu item to do so in the file menu. You can specify the destination of the backup ZIP file. This will save the SQL database but not the thumbnails. In addition the thumbnails and other files of your image catalog should be saved from time to time on an external harddrive. Although the thumbnails can be created by fotoARRAY which can take quite a while and also requires the original files to be available.
