Q: I have all my pictures on my local hard drive. I have an exact duplicate structure on an external hard drive. I use a file synchronization program to back up and synchronize the folders.
My local drive is running out of space, so I want to use the files on the external drive and delete those on the local drive. I should be able to point the database to a new drive.
A: With fotoARRAY this is easy. Simply select the top folder (or drive letter) in the folder pane and open the options dialog (= gear button). Click on the left button and a dialog box will pop up. It is prefilled with the current path, i.e. "F:". You can type a different path, i.e. "D:\Images_F" to point it to a different drive, optionally also with a folder. You can revert this change if required since the change only happens in the database. No files are moved!
If you select several folders the input dialog pops up for each selected folder.
With the licensed edition of fotoARRAY it is also possible to move a folder in the database to be the child of a different one. This will not move any files on the hard drive, but only change the database.
