This page contains the terms and conditions for fotoARRAY, fotoARRAYRAW and the fotoARRAY File Browser, the risks that come with programs of this kind and what we do against them, the refund policy and the credits for the components we use.

The programs fotoARRAY, fotoARRAYRAW and the fotoARRAY File Browser, their conception as well as the provided pictures are protected by copyright law.
Any liability of the producer of the program is excluded, except in the case of intent or gross negligence. In any case the liability is limited to the purchase price. Please note that images which have been deleted may be hidden, but not physically removed from the database.
fotoARRAY contains a non destructive developer. It stores development parameters in the catalog and in companion files and never modifies the original image files. Exported files are new files. The program may only be used with written permission as an image database for published images.
Without a license code the product can only be used as Free Edition. Here the database can be edited and searched, but a badge is displayed, at most 100 images are shown per view, exported pages carry a footer and some tools are not usable. The program you downloaded does not have an expiration date, except for the 14 day test of the PRO functions. Future downloads may have further restrictions. Please keep your downloaded installer at a safe place in case you need to reinstall the software later.
fotoARRAY can check if we posted an update to the program. Doing so it does transmit the version number but not the license key or machine identifying parameters.
With the purchase of a license the buyer acquires the right to use the program on 4 systems in the same household. This right is not transferable. If used in a commercial environment, the use is limited to one single person. The license covers all versions 3.x of fotoARRAY, fotoARRAYRAW and the fotoARRAY File Browser.
The distribution of the license codes required for unlocking is prohibited and can cause a deactivation of the license.
The program may not be used to manage images whose possession is illegal in the country of use. A use on critical systems, power plants, ships etc. is also prohibited.
The license must be activated at the beginning and after installing an update if necessary. For this purpose the encrypted license code, an anonymous ID for the system and, for technical reasons, the IP address are sent to an external server located in Germany. The program refreshes the activation silently when an internet connection is available, at most once a week. Without connection the license stays valid.
fotoARRAY, fotoARRAYRAW and the File Browser are programs that read large numbers of files, decode image data of many different origins, keep a database and use the graphics card and all processor cores for extended periods. This creates risks that no program of this kind can exclude completely.
By installing or using the programs you confirm that you know these risks and accept them. The following list names the risks we are aware of and what we do against them.
A catalog can become unusable through a program error, a power failure, a full or failing disk or a defective memory module. The program never writes to your original image files, but it writes to the catalog, to companion files next to the images (development recipes, variants, depth files), to XMP sidecar files when you ask for it, and, with the corresponding PRO functions, it renames, moves or deletes files and folders on your request. A wrong click in these functions cannot always be undone on the disk.
All catalog changes go through one server process and are written in transactions with a journal, so an interrupted write does not corrupt the database. Deletions go to the trash of the catalog first. Every change to the catalog can be undone. The backup function writes a consistent copy of the catalog while the program runs. We recommend a regular backup of the catalog and of the original images; the program does not replace it.
Importing a large collection, creating previews, developing RAW files and exporting a photo book keep the processor, the graphics card and the disks at full load for minutes or hours. On a computer with insufficient cooling, with a blocked fan, with an overclocked or already damaged component or with a graphics card whose cooling is undersized, this can lead to overheating, to thermal shutdowns, to a shortened life of the component or, in rare cases, to a defect. SSDs have a limited number of write cycles, and the preview store of a large catalog is written once per picture.
The number of parallel worker threads follows the number of processor cores and can be reduced in the options. During the import and the creation of previews, RAW files are decoded in a separate process with a memory limit and a time limit per file. The graphics card is used for drawing the grid and the previews, which is a light load; the heavy computations of the developer run on the processor. Long running jobs can be paused and cancelled, and their progress is shown. If your computer reboots, shuts down or shows artefacts during heavy work, stop, check the cooling and reduce the number of worker threads before you continue. We cannot know the state of your hardware and accept no liability for damage that arises from load.
Image files, RAW files, sidecar files, PDF files, ZIP archives and catalog files can be crafted to exploit errors in the software that reads them. A file received from an unknown source may contain such data. A damaged file can crash a decoder.
During the import and the creation of previews, RAW files and other camera formats are decoded by the server in a sandboxed process with limited memory and a time limit; a crash of that process does not affect the program or the catalog, the file is marked and skipped. Please note that this protection applies to the import. When you open a picture in the developer or in fotoARRAYRAW, it is decoded inside that program, so a defective file can crash the developer; the catalog is not affected by such a crash, because it is kept by the server process.
The programs are written in Delphi and compiled to native code. Strings and dynamic arrays in Delphi carry their length and are managed by the runtime, so the classic buffer overflows of C style code are much harder to provoke, and our decoders do not place data on the stack or in executable memory. There is no interpreter, no just in time compiler and no scripting engine in the programs.
The programs do not load plug-ins, scripts or code from the catalog, from image files or from the network. Templates, recipes and export jobs are data files that are parsed, never executed. Programs started with "Edit with" are the programs installed on your system, chosen by you. The executables we ship are digitally signed by WPCubed GmbH; please download them only from this web site and check the signature if in doubt. If you open a catalog or files that were given to you by somebody else, you do so at your own risk.
Sharing pictures on the local network opens a port on your computer for the duration of the share. Anybody in the same network who has the link or the QR code can see the shared pictures and, if you allow it, download or upload files.
Shares are limited to the pictures you selected, can be protected by a password, expire after the time you set and can be revoked at any time. The port is closed when the share ends. Use the function in networks you trust.
The Adobe DNG Converter is not part of fotoARRAY. If it is installed on your system, fotoARRAY can use it to convert camera formats that our decoder does not read. The map function loads map tiles from an internet service and transmits the requested map section. The support dialog and the license activation contact servers operated by us.
What is transmitted is described in the privacy statement. We are not responsible for the availability or the behaviour of programs and services of third parties.
The program was created with the greatest possible care and is tested on a range of computers before a release. Nevertheless software contains errors. If you find one, please report it with the support dialog. Do not use the program for tasks where a data loss or a hardware failure would cause damage you cannot bear.

The Adobe DNG Converter is a free program of Adobe Inc. It is not part of fotoARRAY and is not installed by it. If fotoARRAY finds it on your system, it can use it to convert camera formats into DNG for decoding.
