fotoARRAY 3 comes in two editions.
The Free Edition is the program you download. No time limit, no registration.
Enter a license code and the same program becomes fotoARRAY PRO.
Addional downloads, such as the AI package are only usable with PRO license.
The line is drawn so the Free Edition stays useful for what it is meant to do: keep a photo collection accessible. Importing, organizing, finding and viewing are free.
Everything that connects fotoARRAY to other programs, and everything that produces output for publishing, is PRO. Batch export is one example.
The photo editor is also far more capable in PRO: local adjustments, effects, perspective control, several layer types and even a liquify tool.
A view is what you see after a click on an album, a folder, a keyword or a filter. The Free Edition shows the first 100 pictures of that view and tells you below the grid how many more there are. You can click on "next" to see the next 100.
The catalog itself is not limited. You can import as many pictures as you like, and they are all there when you register.
There is one exception, made for handing over a collection: a catalog that PRO exported as a stand alone catalog is shown by the Free Edition without the limit. The person who receives such a catalog can browse all of it without buying anything. This is how a photo legacy is meant to travel with fotoARRAY.
PDF pages exported with the Free Edition carry the text www.fotoarray.com in the footer, and the pages are flattened. PRO exports the pages without the footer and with the full JPEG data of every picture embedded.
The developer inside the catalog is the same engine in both editions. In the Free Edition you get the groups tone, colour, white balance and detail, which covers exposure, contrast, shadows, highlights, saturation, the colour wheel, sharpening and noise reduction. Layers, masks, the repair tools, perspective, crop inside the developer, the effect chain and templates are part of PRO. A development that was made with PRO is kept unchanged when the picture is opened with the Free Edition.
PRO removes the limits: unlimited batch tagging, full XMP export, sidecar files copied along, DNG and TIFF export, and borders on export, with watched albums and network sharing coming soon.

The register dialog offers a 30 day test of all PRO functions. It does not ask for a name or an e-mail address. The test is bound to the computer, so a new installation does not restart it.
All developments, variants and depth files you created are kept, they are simply not editable in full any more until you register and will not be used by the devloping engine.
fotoARRAYRAW and the File Browser use the same license and the same test period. You do not have to activate anything twice.

One license is valid for four installations in the same household. It is not a subscription and it does not expire. It covers all versions 3.x of fotoARRAY, fotoARRAYRAW and the File Browser. The activation sends the license code, an anonymous machine id and, for technical reasons, the IP address to a server located in Germany. Once activated, the program works offline. You can cancel the purchase within 30 days. The complete terms are on the license page.
